Are you familiar with all the Greek gods and goddesses from ancient Greek mythology? Did you check out the display easels[/url] during AP World Literature or did you refrain from paying attention in class? Well here’s a quiz to test your memory, can you name these 12 Greek gods and goddesses?
- The King of the Gods – he is the ruler of Mount Olympis and the god of the sky and thunder.
- Queen of Gods and Marriage- this is the wife and older sister to Zeus, the cow and the peacock were very sacred creatures to her.
- God of the Sea- this god is the brother of Hades and Zeus and he is known as the “Earth-Shaker” of earthquakes.
- Messenger of the Gods- he is the great guide to the Underworld and also the patron of boundaries and travelers.
- Goddess of Hearth and Home- this virgin goddess receives the first sacrifice of households and has the right ordering of domesticity and the family.
- Goddess of Wisdom- she is also known as the goddess of war, strategy, industry, justice, and skill. She is also considered the companion of heroes and the goddess of heroic endeavors.
- God of War and Vengeance- he was a major deity and son of Zeus and Hera. He is also the god of bloodlust or personified slaughter.
- Goddess of Fertility and Agriculture- She is “Earth-Mother,” the goddess of grain and the green earth, the pure nourisher of the youth and preserver of marriage and sacred law.
- God of Sun and Healing- he is also recognized highly as the god of light, sun, truth and prophecy, archery, medicine and healing, music, poetry, and the arts.
- God of Fire and Forge- His mother was Hera and he was the god of technology, blacksmiths, craftsmen, artisans, sculptors, metals, metallurgy, fire, and volcanoes.
- Goddess of the Hunt and Moon- daughter of Zeus and Leto, and twin sister of Apollo, she is the goddess of forests and hills, child birth, virginity, fertility, the hunt, and she is also referred to as the huntress who carries bows and arrows.
- Goddess of Love and Beauty- she is the Greek goddess of love, beauty, and raw sexuality.
